Automated Laboratory

At DM Health Center, our exclusive Laboratory Services provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing, clinical and consultative services to our patients. Accuracy is the only key to gauge criticalness of any illness of a patient. Our services are provided with the same thought and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our laboratories are compliant with the international standards for laboratory accreditation.

Here are few tests which are frequently conducted in our labs:

  • Microbiology receives almost any clinical specimen, including swabs, feces, urine, blood, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, as well as possible infected tissue. The work here is mainly concerned with cultures, to look for suspected pathogens which, if found, are further identified based on biochemical tests. Also, sensitivity testing is carried out to determine whether the pathogen is sensitive or resistant to a suggested medicine. Results are reported with the identified organism(s) and the type and amount of drug(s) that should be prescribed for the patient.
  • Virology is concerned with identification of viruses in specimens such as blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid.
  • Hematology examines whole blood specimens to perform full blood counts. Blood films are examined as well as many other specialized tests.
  • Coagulation requires citrated blood samples to analyze blood clotting times and coagulation factors.
  • Toxicology mainly tests for pharmaceutical and recreational drugs. Urine and blood samples are submitted to this lab.
  • Urinalysis tests urine for many analysis, including microscopically. If measuring urine chemicals is required, the specimen is processed in the clinical biochemistry lab, if specialized cell studies are indicated, the specimen may be submitted to the cytopathology lab, and so on.
  • Histopathology processes solid tissue removed from the body (biopsies) for evaluation at the microscopic level.
  • Cytogenetics involves using blood and other cells to get a karyotype. This can be helpful in cases of prenatal diagnosis (e.g. Down’s syndrome) as well as in some cancers which have abnormal chromosomes.

Digital X-Ray Unit

X-rays (radiographs) are the most common and widely available diagnostic imaging technique. Digital X-ray is a form of radiography that uses x-ray–sensitive plates to directly capture data during the patient examination, immediately transferring it to a computer system without the use of an intermediate cassette.

Digital radiography: It is a novel method of medical imaging which uses digital X-ray sensors instead of conventional films to produce images. This technology provides faster imaging, detailed radiographs and quality digital images. Digital radiography constitutes a system with components that include a digital image receptor, a digital image processing unit, an image management system, image and data storage devices, interface to a patient information system, a communication network and a display device with operated controls. Digital radiographs are stored in the form of digital data and can be displayed on a computer monitor.

Ultrasound Scan

An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It is suitable for use during pregnancy. Ultrasound scans, or sonography, are safe because they use sound waves or echoes to make an image, instead of radiation. Ultrasound scans are used to evaluate fetal development, and they can detect problems in the liver, heart, kidney, or abdomen. They may also assist in performing certain types of biopsy. The image produced is called a sonogram.

  •  Ultrasound scans are safe and widely used.
  •  They are often used to check the progress of a pregnancy.
  •  They are used for diagnosis or treatment.
  •  No special preparation is normally necessary before an ultrasound scan.

Ambulance Service

DM Health Center offers 24 hours round the clock ambulance services, geared to meet any emergency - surgical or medical. An ambulance that can take care of the patient, right from the site of the accident, or illness, and can make available to them, at their doorstep with all the medical expertise and advances in patient care.

The ambulance, which is a Mobile Critical Care Unit, provides the patient, the same care as would be available in any well-equipped intensive care unit, during his / her transit to the hospital. Designed along the lines of the modern hi-tech ambulances, it has all the fitments for an emergency unit including a two-way communication system. It is manned by a doctor and trained para-medical personnel. A telescopic stretcher, which doubles as a trolley, minimizes the effort for transfer of the patient. Special shock absorbers on the vehicle allow for a smooth journey. Moreover, the unit being air conditioned, it provides maximum comfort to the patient while travelling.

Following are some of the unique facilities available with the Ambulance :

  • The Mobile Critical Care Team : A doctor, trained in Intensive Care, will always be on board. To assist him with the patient, will be a male nurse and a ward-boy, apart from the driver, who would also help in the shifting of the patient.
  • Ventilator : This is a breathing machine. It supplies oxygen to all patients, whether adults, or children.
  • Defibrillator : This is used to shock a diseased heart to bring it back to normalcy.
  • Suction Machine : To take out secretions (sputum) from the lungs.
  • Emergency Kit : This is a light-weight aluminium suitcase, containing all emergency drug, equipment and infusions (drips). It is carried by the Mobile Critical Care Team to start emergency treatment on the spot.
  • Two-way Communication System : The unit is equipped with a wireless system, to provide for communiction between the hospital and the mobile care unit and vice versa. This is to help provide information regarding the patient to the hospital authorities, so that various specialists could be kept ready for the paitent. Also expert advice could be sought from various specialists, as the patient is being transported to the hospital.
